Youth Art Month: Under the Microscope

Theme: Under the Microscope

Place: The Jefferson Center in Downtown Roanoke

Dates:

Hanging: March 5, 12-2 pm

Sorry the reception date and take down date are not yet determined. I wanted to make sure that you had as much time as possible to get work completed. I will let you know ASAP when the dates are set.

Preparation: Your work must be ready to be hung. The hanging system at the Jefferson Center consists of a piece of molding with a wire that comes down and ties onto the wire on the back of your work. Please come prepared. No artwork should be taped to the wall. All sculptures should be displayed on a pedestal. You are responsible for supplying the pedestal.

Label: See the attached document for a label format. Print this on white paper and mount it to black construction paper, creating a nice simple border. These labels can be taped to the wall beside the artwork with gaffers tape. The tape will be provided by the Jefferson Center. DO NOT use any other tape on the walls.

Hanging: If you cannot make it on the date to hang the artwork, please make arrangements to have your work hung by another member or contact a member of the board.

Answers to common questions:

How many pieces can I bring?- As many as you'd like.

Do I need to have it framed? Not necessary, but all work must be ready to be hung.

Can I bring sculpture? Yes, if you bring your own display table/stand/pedestal.

Can I _________? Yes, we trust you!!! This is an Art Educators organization- we trust that you are intelligent and creative. We do not want to stifle your creativity by setting a lot of limits. We give you a general theme and let you go to town with however you choose. We only hope that participation grows and you have a good time being with us. We're in a box all day and hope that these activities give you a chance to get out of that box- in more than one way! *Please note: all age groups and a variety of religious organizations use the Jefferson Center. Please make sure the artwork is respectful of this.

Artist/Educator Show

It is time to get read for this year's Artist/Educator show. It will be at the Jefferson Center this year, 541 Luck Ave. in Roanoke. Bring your artwork READY TO HANG to the Jefferson Center on Friday, November 12 from 4-6, or Saturday, November 13 from 10-12. Please email Anne Pfeiffer (annepfeiffer@verizon.net) your label information by November 6th so that she can prepare the labels for you. The label information should be: your name, title of artwork, media, price if for sale or if NFS.

The reception will be Friday, December 3rd from 5-7. We will take down Saturday, January 8th between 10 and 12. There will be no charge for VAEA members, but $10/artwork for non-members. Spread the word!

Electronic Gallery

Hope to see a lot of you at conference this year. We have not had many artist/educators submit artwork to the electronic gallery, so we'd like to extend the deadline another week (until Oct. 22). Please see the vaea website, conference tab for the form, etc.

College of Santa Fe

The College of Santa Fe is coming to the Roanoke area Monday, May 24-26 not only to share information about their creative programs, but also to review portfolios and hold auditions. Their majors are: creative writing, filmmaking, theater arts, studio art, graphic design, and photography. They are also interested in awarding some talent scholarships. Free Admission to the Taubman Saturday

Saturday, March 13, is Family Day at the Taubman Museum of Art, between 11 and 3. There will also be entertainment and activities. Check out their website calendar for other upcoming events.

Hollins University Offering a Three-Week Drawing Course in Italy this Summer
